Where to start if you’re looking at building a new home?

Remember NOW is always the perfect time to start setting goals and planning if you’re starting to look at building (and I don’t just mean writing down goals, putting them in a draw and NEVER looking at them again 😂). 

But where do you even start?

It’s so important to remember that when you’re looking at building a house, you don’t just jump straight in and start searching for land! There’s so many other factors you need to consider first so you can truly create your dream home.

✨ Visualise, visualise, visualise! This is the number 1 step that everyone misses. Visualising yourself in your dream home and creating an emotional connection towards this goal helps you to stay committed. You become so attached to this goal that no matter what you will achieve it!

✨Write your goals on sticky notes, mirrors around the house or in your diary so you are constantly seeing it EVERYWHERE (even little details like a freestanding bath with a view 😍). Let’s get that subconscious mind working!

✨Action is everything. Everyday you need to ask yourself ‘What is one little thing I can do today to get me closer to my dream home?’ Whether it’s saving an extra $100, creating your pinterest vision board walking through display homes or choosing NOT to buy a new car.

✨ Finance: Get your finance sorted. I’m talking about creating a savings plan and sticking to it. Pay off any debt you have and get your letter of eligibility. Finding out your budget will help you understand what you can afford and what you are comfortable with. No point looking at a million dollar house if your budget is $500K.

✨ The design: The non negotiables: Make a list of all your must-haves. What is most important to you? Think high ceilings or a walk-in wardrobe. The wishlist: This is everything that gets added in if you have a little extra wiggle room in the budget a.k.a. the glamorous upgrades. The lifestyle list: What do you need in your home to suit your lifestyle? Mudroom for the kids to drop their school bags? Love to entertain? A theatre room?

✨Location: Where do you want to live? 

✨Land: How much land would you like? Do you have any pets that need space to run around?

✨Shop around:  If you don’t ask, you won’t know. Shop around for the best price. If you ask your phone provider if there is a better deal, they will typically offer you a better price.
